The owners of this cottage on a large estate in Gloucestershire asked us to design an informal, low maintenance garden for them. In particular, they wanted something in tune with the glorious surroundings; on a steeply sloping site buried deep in the hills, it’s a place where orchids grow wild and buzzards fly low. We used old, mismatched stone to make paths and walls, created a wild flower meadow and filled the garden with natural planting to give a romantic, natural feel, inspired by the power and beauty of the surrounding landscape.
